If you’re not familiar with Dr. Lecter’s work, you should be. He’s a master at taking the reality of local politics and infusing it with his creative sense of humor. You can see his work here. In the above photo he gives us a glimpse of what a Perón-Obama meeting might have looked like. The photo, which was posted earlier this week by Darío Gallo over at Bloc de Periodista, was done for an article in the magazine Noticias, written by Pacho O’Donnell.

I lived in Argentine 2000-2003 – posted at the US Embassy – and visited every province at least once. Some of my travel articles/blogs are up on the website. we LOVED Argentina and I would be happy to answer questions from readers about favorite places, etc.

Clare says:

Hi, we are considering moving to Argentina. Could you tell me a bit about your experience? Things you found good…hard? What did you enjoy about it?

taos says:

Hi Clare,
This is a really open-ended question that would be hard to answer here briefly. Argentina in general is a wonderful place to live. The social atmosphere, in my view, is great while the country has a cultural life and customs that can really enrich one’s quality of life. The biggest downside to living in Argentina is the crime. If you’re here long enough, you will become a victim of it – probably nothing really grave or dangerous, but bad enough to be frustrated by it and feel insecure sometimes. By and large, the pros outweigh the cons, however.

I was born in Bs.As. Arg. And is very nice the way you play it down.

Clare
The Country is wonderful, Buenos Aires is quite run-down and dirty, the crime is in any corner. By and Large… The cons outweigh the pros.

Miguel gallardo says:

I disagree with JC

I grew up in Bs.As. and like any large metropolitan city you have to be careful with everyday crime. The people, the culture, the layout of the city are all wonderful. Pro’s very much outweigh the cons.

Paul says:

I agree with Miguel Gallardo. Crime in Bs As is not any higher than in other big cities. Sadly the media pump crime up for political reasons, but trust me, I live here.
