Gov Sanford Admits Affaire With Argentine Woman

By now you’ve almost certainly read about South Carolina Mark Sanford and about how he surreptitiously traveled to Argentina. While Sanford was in Argentina, his staff back in the U.S. told reporters that he was hiking the Appalachian trail alone. In reality, he was hanging out in Palermo with his Argentine mistress.
Before Sanford disclosed the facts of his sexscapade to staff and later to the nation in a teary-eyed press conference, yours truly already had confirmed exclusively that Sanford had flown into Buenos Aires on June 19 on Delta Airlines. He was here until June 23, when he flew back through Atlanta.
Sanford also had been in Argentina a year ago on what was at least partially an official visit. On that trip, the governor flew into the country from Paraguay, arriving at an airport in Cordoba on June 24. He stayed until June 27, when he returned to the U.S., also on Delta. During the 2008 trip, Sanford met with Buenos Aires Governor Daniel Scioli (seen in the photo above) and, presumably, his Argentine mistress. Sanford called the woman a “dear, dear friend” who he has known for eight years.
McClatchy published this story which includes a photo of an apartment building near the Jardín Botánico that allegedly belongs to the woman. Sanford reportedly stayed at the place while in Buenos Aires.
The State newspaper in South Carolina, which claims to know the woman’s identity, published emails sent from Sanford to his mistress here. The Wall Street Journal has a complete wrap on the sorry tale here.

I feel sorry for the woman. I hope she doesn’t have bloggers and journalists camping outside her apartment. I understand the curiosity factor, though. Let’s admit it… how many of us readers are waiting for the photo of her to see whether she’s a mistress in the style of Berlusconi or of the Clinton variety…
Being that this is Argentina, I’m betting on the former.
I agree. I decided not to publish her name here. But it’s already out there and the pressure on her is going to be unrelenting for a while.
Cheers,
Taos
Thanks for providing these links. Fascinating story. Not surprisingly, it’s impossible to get on the State website this morning. The traffic must be unbelievable. Nothing sells like a good old sex scandal. Personally, I used to dislike Sanford as a creepy republican (he turned down Obama’s stimulus funds) and now I kind of like him. I hope he can move on with his life.
I do not understand the “pity” for the other woman. As a “friend” she bedded the husband and stabbed the wife! What about the four boys? No one but the wife thought about them. This is purely selfish on Mr. Sanford’s part. He thought only about what instant gratification he can get and then – left his SC state for days without his “governship”. He betrayed not only his family and friends, he abandoned his constituents for days. What does that say about him? And sadly (pardon the pun) it takes TWO to tango. The homewrecker Maria is as equally to blame as this hedious excuse for a family man for the pain his family is tryin to get a grip on.
And to think that Sanford was so sanctimonious and holier than thou towards Clinton. Sanford confessed only because he was caught, and cornered! Lies, lies,lies…..
He committed a mortal sin..he disobeyed one of the 10 commandments!
Sometimes it comes down to being careful as to whom you throw stones at, it might just comeback at you. This is an MAJOR OUCH moment for him and I’m sure after the lies and condemnation – he knows he will not get any money more than what he made as governor from Jenny’s Skil Corp.’s own money. The prenup ‘infidelity clause’ can be a very good thing! He made his bed, now he has to lay in it.
Maria and Mr. Sanford will get their just desserts.
I wish the media would lay off. What else do voters need to know? The guy had an affair, end story. Publishing their private emails is completely unethical, IMHO. Props Taos, for protecting her name.
