I am from Toronto and visit Buenos Aires twice a year and I can tell you the only time I've ever stopped into a Starbucks while in BA was to compare pricing vs. prices in Toronto. It certainly wasn't to enjoy a good cup of coffee, there are way too many other places in BA to get a good cup of coffee, less expensive too.

I should mention during that one and only visit the place was empty and except two American tourists asking for directions.

Well, they operate mostly franchises. If I'm not mistaken the company operating these stores in Bs. As. is the same one that runs the operation in Chile: Sur Cafe.
Pretty much the same as the company that runs the McDonald's franchises in Argentina and Chile. Buenos Aires is a big city and there are plenty of foreigners and many tourists descending on the capital are too familiar with all the fast food and bevegages chains. Aroma will definitely give Starbuck's a run for their money since it's been inserted in the lives of Portenos for a long time now. Many other local chains such as Havanna & Cafe Martinez have got their following so this is definitely a very crowded market. Nonetheless, the cake is big enough for everyone to get a nice slice of it. :)

Actually there are two Subway stores in Buenos Aires. I don't think this store will close soon because it's located next to a very big gym called Megatlon, where people are working out every 24 7.

They are probably franchises. Many of them will close shortly. Very few fast food chains have succeeded in Buenos Aires, I can only think of Mc Donalds and Burger King, I am not sure if Subway is still open. I have not lived in Bue for some years now.
