Ignatius,

Let me get this straight.. So you don't care that the money from the fees goes to the pockets of your corrupt government, as long as you satisfy your thirst for revenge against the US.. if most argentines think like yourself, now I see why the country is in the mess it is.. No offense, but you really deserve the government you have..

K

Just a quick reponse to your "English ALWAYS means you're from England" is not entirely true. Ask any English-speaking South African (or neighbouring countries): at home, we refer to ourselves as English, simply because, in a country with many different official languages and cultures, language is the convenient label for culture. Other South Africans might be Afrikaans, Portuguese, Greek, German Zulu, Sotho, Xhosa, and like them, the language spoken at home is given the same label as someone of that nationality.

Bye bye Michael, enjoy your vacations somewhere else.

Now truly I don't understand the people from the United States who posted here. If Britain asked you to pay a fee to enter any of their nations you would call to sabotage any kind of economical and cultural activity related to Britain...freedom fries and France resound in my mind as a proximate example.
If you don't want to pay, don't come, easy as that. And please I don't care if we need the money generated by tourism, or if the money that the government gets from this fees go to their pockets, at least I will now that we prefer to be treated as equals rather than having our pants down for some US dollars.

Sorry for my Englush.

Now also the US started to collect "entrance fees" from people under the visa waiver program which are meanwhile required to apply via the ESTA system (14 US$, every 2 years or if your passport expires).

Payable in advance, but 10US$ out of the 14 will only be charged if a "travel permit" (they don't call it a visa, although basically it is) is granted. 4 US$ is for their ESTA system.

I grew up with many Mexicans in the U.S. Some of them were in the country legally, others illegally. In general, the vast majority of them were honest, extremely hard-working people who simply wanted to create a better life for themselves and their families. This is not to condone the violation of immigration and other laws. Even so, does breaking such laws automatically make Mexicans a disgrace? Saludos, Taos

Even if that were the case with a significant number of "tourists," and I don't think it is, wouldn't it still be in some way positive for Argentina to have these people coming to spend their money in Argentina? It's an easy net gain that provides an injection of additional money into the local economy. That, in turn, creates jobs and wealth for Argentines. That's not to say breaking visa and immigration rules is acceptable, of course. On the whole, however, it's hard to see how this would be bad for the country. Saludos, Taos

We should also start tracking of all these illegals that come to Argentine from the North -- and start checking for those who overstay; there are tons -- under some lame pretext like "I'm just here doing volunteering work". BS, tell your mama that; your ass is unemployed in the USA and you're leaving off your UP check and in Argentina because you can't afford to live anywhere else.
